U is for...

Unicorn! Yeah, there's not many real animals beginning with U apart from Urchins, and they're a bit dull

If you go down to the woods today....

Another birthday present for another friend. I was requested to draw some of my woodland animals having a tea party in the woods. I'm still having difficulties drawing foxes though

The Flamiraffe

I've drawn this strange animal for a friends birthday as her favourite animals are flamingoes and giraffes. I like the name, sounds like something from a Dr Seuss book!

Henry

Yet another Illustrated name, all boys so far! I'm slowly building up the alphabet though and will hopefully have posters of the alphabet to sell soon x

George

Another illustrated child's name, this time it's red as George is a massive arsenal fan. I'm starting to do all the letters of the alphabet, in blue and pink and look into getting them printed up on vinyl etc. Reckon they could be a nice addition to any nursery.

Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes!

So I've been making a few changes to my most recent projects. The business cards are finished, still got quite a bit of work to do on the flyer as it's not quite what's wanted.

bit of graphic design

recently I've been doing a bit of graphic design work for The Camden Head pub. Nothing major, but it's kept me busy! Go to draw a chicken with a monocle.

Stanley

It was my nephew's 1st birthday last week so I thought I'd draw him something special to keep and I decided to illustrate his name with animals and frame it for him. Something new I learnt? Not very many animals names start with an 'N'! I'm now considering doing the whole alphabet and selling prints, or maybe even vinyl stickers of baby names.

this is the scanned image, for some reason my scanner cut off the y though and I didn't realise until it was framed. Doh.
here's a photoshoppped photograph. Not the best of qualities, but you get a better idea of the image.

the framed and finished piece.

Fiddling about.

I'm giving everything a complete overhaul (well, kind of!). I've decided that I need to get myself going, get more freelance work, get my stuff out in to the world, so am going to try a bit of self promotion! And that requires logos i believe? It at least requires some kind of branding/promotional bits and bobs.

Reckon I'll change the blog header a bit too.

Love and Marriage, they go together like a horse and carriage

So, I notice that my most viewed post on this blog was for a design I made for some wedding invites, so I though I'd post the final thing.

I kept them simple and elegant, slightly art nouveau inspired. I have to say, the scans don't really do the paper much justice. The white paper was actually a really lovely pearlescent ivory colour.
I'm open to commissions if anyone's interested and would like to get in touch with me regarding them xx

a medieval bestiary

I posted my sketch of the Wolpertinger earlier and have now done a few more. I'm going on to make them in to linocuts, a technique similar to the woodcutting these original bestiaries would have used. First time with a new techniques, so it's pretty exciting learning new things!

Whilst researching these animals, I found out that a lot of them are actually used in some online games? My versions are a lot more sad sap than the ones in the games though! especially my leucrota... The original animals from the medieval bestiaries can be found here.

New Screenprints

So here's some better images of the screen prints currently being exhibited at the Silent Auction at the Abbey Tavern.

I changed my image from the penguin book design cover because I thought it'd make a good print and am considering making a series of these kind of images based on various stories

Silent Auction

My work is going to be exhibited in the upcoming silent auction taking place at the Abbey Tavern in Kentish Town this week. I've out in 4 original screen prints and one original drawing (sorry about the bad photo quality! I had to photograph them in my dim basement flat once framed!)
