So close

Here's the final images I'll be working from for my final MA pieces, now all I need to do is screen print them.

The Peryton: Printmaking Techniques

In continuation of my Bestiary print making project, here are the last two I'll be doing for the time being. I've printed the Peryton as a Linocut and Screen print. They're pretty big, so excuse my photography.

I personally prefer the lino cut, I feel it suits the subject matter more.

The Enfield and The Leucrota

So here are the first prints of two of the creatures from my Medieval Bestiary, plus one failed one of The Catoblepas.

Enfield

Leucrota
I'm really happy with how these turned out, considering they're my first proper foray in to the world of Lino Cutting (and especially as I did them on my own DIY press ie, me standing on them under a big bit of wood!). The large areas of solid colour didn't work well, however - I don't think my body mass equates to the pressure of a printing press (thankfully) - so I'm adding in a bit more detail to the prints. May also experiment with colour.

Catoblepas
With this one, I thought I'd try a more textured, thicker paper. It did not work, but I still kind of like it.

Overall, I like the outcome and really like the way linocuts look, it's got a very specific and bold quality to the line I like. What do other people think about the process? Do you like it? Or think it's too time consuming / outdated?

More to come, I'm working on the Peryton, and those feathers are taking a long, long time.

Aunty Nora's Vintage and Handmade Market

So today was myself and Sangita's first day as stall holders at a market, and whilst it wasn't the busiest or biggest market ever, we think that the day was a good learning experience (mainly in knowing how to set up our stall;panic set in when we realised how small our table was!) and we managed to sell a reasonable amount for such a quiet day.

Next task for this week is setting up a big cartel shop for Fawn and Thistle and I'm going to be setting up one for my personal stuff too, to allow myself to indulge in my more macabre love of gothic illustration.

The top photograph shows off two of my newest illustrations for Grace magazine, which I will be posting about later. I hope everyone's enjoying their sunny bank holidays.

Mister Dress-Up

A couple of weeks back I was asked by Mister Dress-Up - a Montreal based T-shirt company - if they could use one of my illustrations as a t-shirt design. So, for the next week, you will be able to buy my stag illustration on a lovely white cotton tee!

MA Illustration Interim Show.

Along with around 25 other Illustrators from my MA course, I will be exhibiting some work at The Beach Gallery next week.

Check out the other illustrators on the website or join our Facebook. I will be exhibiting my two new Fairytale screenprints.

Here's a sneak peek:

On a side not, my friend will be teaching me how to properly photograph things, so there will be no more shoddy photos on this blog!

The Fawn and Thistle

Here's my finished Fawn drawing. I'd ideally like there to be some colour so I'm going to try adding this digitally or by screen printing.

The Seven Ravens

So this has taken me a lot longer to finish than I thought. The seven ravens is a Grimm tale that is very similar to the Six swans, but just that little bit...well..more grimm! I decided to show this by making The Seven Ravens similar in composition to The Six Swans, but a lot darker (and a bit occulty looking it seems).

Now for turning them in to screen prints.

The Seven Ravens
(As the drawing is pretty large, this is yet another one of my badly lit cameraphone snaps so some of the detail is missing and the tone uneven, hoping to get a good scan soon though)

Z is for Zebra (obvs)

It's finished! I of course finished with a Z. Now to mock up some posters.

It's scanned in blurry for some strange reason, which needs redoing, but apart from that!

Wittlebee + Threadless Kids

My submission for Threadless x Wittlebee has been approved, so the Dandy Otter is up for voting for the next week here.

Xolo

The hardest letter to find in my animalphabet was X. Step up the Xolo, a hairless, mexican dog.

An Unkindness of Ravens

Here's all the sketchbook work for my next fairytale print The Seven Ravens. I love the fact that a group of ravens is called and unkindness or a conspiracy.

Bestiary print update

I've finally finished working on three of my bestiary linocuts. Here's some rough rubbings I took to get an idea of what they'll look like finished. I'm feeling pretty positive and excited about them!

Here's the Enfield, Leucrota and Catoblepas.

Animalphabets framed

Here's a photo of what the animalphabet names look like framed. The lighting in my flat is awful and my camera phone is grainy, so it's not the best photo! I'm hoping to get some better ones soon.

Nevermore

Drawing Ravens today, not the best quality photograph!

meow

Here's a quick little design I worked on for a clothing company, I wanted it to be in a tattoo kind of style, so that it would fit in with their current designs.

On a side note, my "Six Swans" illustration has been chosen to be included in the Society 6 print shop!  Find it HERE.
